About Us
Hey Sanderfans and Cosmerepolitans!
Thanks for checking us out! Shards and Shenanigans started as a fun way for two brother-in-laws—Christopher and Kyle—to stay connected. After reading The Wheel of Time together and constantly calling each other to talk about the chapters, we realized how much we loved diving deep into epic fantasy.
Christopher had already discovered the Cosmere and had been nudging Kyle to give it a shot. Once Kyle finally gave in, we decided to turn our chapter chats into a podcast. Now we’re journeying through the Cosmere—Kyle for the first time, and Christopher as a re-read—and sharing the adventure along the way.
About Christopher
Hello! Christopher here! I got into reading fantasy from my Mom—Hi Moms! I think we started with series by C.S. Lewis and L. Frank Baum when I was a child. My mother, who would work most of the day, would take some time at night before bed reading to my little brother and me, all these wonderful stories that I got engrossed in.
She then introduced me to The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit by ol' Grandpa Tolkien before I grew too old to make time for reading together. Instead, I began to read on my own. I fell in love with series like Redwall and Ender's Game and have been a fan and consumer of fantasy and science fiction ever since.
A few years back, my brother-in-law Kyle started reading The Wheel of Time, a series I had put down due to attrition and the distracting avenues of teenage life over a decade prior—maybe two 😉. We finished Wheel of Time just as I had about finished all the books in the Cosmere by Brandon Sanderson, which was really satisfying to complete, especially since I already had a deep appreciation for Sanderson.
It's been a real pleasure to read books with Kyle for the stimulating conversations and thoughts we get to share together. Kyle has an amazing attention to detail, as you can tell, so I hope you enjoy—as much as I do—being on this journey with him through Mistborn, and hopefully more Cosmere along the way. Thanks for listening, stay Misty!
About Kyle
My love for fantasy began early, thanks to my dad introducing me to The Lord of the Rings. For a long time, I lived and breathed Middle-earth—reading the books, watching the movies on repeat, and diving into Lord of the Rings Online. That world was my home base, and I didn’t venture far beyond it for a while.
That changed when Christopher got me into The Wheel of Time. Until then, I hadn’t explored many other fantasy worlds, but WoT pulled me in fast. It opened my eyes to how rich and varied the genre could be. Lord of the Rings will always be my first love, but I’ve learned there’s plenty of room on my bookshelf (and in my heart) for other epic stories.
Outside of fantasy, I’m also a big fan of sci-fi and try to mix in a few solid non-fiction reads each year. Some of my favorite books include The Martian by Andy Weir, The Remaining series by D.J. Molles, and Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.
